Last year St. Ignatius raised money for Rhino Camp, Uganda and following on from a presentation on Rhino Camp given by Father Raymond Perrier SJ the school indicated they were interested in pursuing the link. It is, however, hoped that the refugees will in time be able to return to their homes, and thus, St. Ignatius were very happy to follow Father Perrier’s suggestion: that their fundraising for the term be for St. Joseph’s Secondary School. St. Joseph’s is based in Yei, South Sudan where it is hoped that some of the refugees in Rhino Camp will return.
St. Ignatius hope to raise £10, 000 to buy bunk beds for a girls’ dormitory at the school. As female education is not traditionally prioritised this money will provide an invaluable opportunity for approximately 700 girls to be accommodated. It will provide them with the chance to receive an education, even if they do live far away.
Their fundraising activity for the term is based on the multimillion dollar webpage. As money is raised, “pixels” will appear on a board at the front of the school so that when the target of £10, 000 is raised the whole image will be revealed.
