St Francis School

In 2000 our marathon team helped to fund the building of this school. St Francis School is a co-educational secondary school in Idimu, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria. Built and run by the Jesuits, the 1,000 student school is designed to provide a higher standard of education for poor families who often cannot afford the fees imposed by the public school system, much less private schools. Charging a lower tuition than even the local diocesan schools, faculty salaries are augmented through private fund-raising and support from an endowment fund created for the school by the Jesuit Regional Superior. One Jesuit priest and three Scholastics teach and work with students, and help maintain the Jesuit spirit among the lay faculty.

Further funds are required to extend the school.
